An animation will be posted here soon that will show how the sculpture works when a user activates it.
Until then, I will try to describe how it works with a few still images.
The more curious user will likely approach the sculpture and try to activate it by trying to rotate the Christian/Islam/Mechanism assembly relative to the Foundation.
All parts with light-blue color are fixed to ground. All other
elements rotate in either direction about the vertical axis
as depicted by the green arrows.
A logical place to push is on the rim of the Islam or Christian elements near or from on top of the Atlas Track. The Atlas Track is present to help those of smaller stature to gain better leverage from which to activate the sculpture.
A logical place for a user to
push on the sculpture to get
it rotating.
The user is free to use the
Atlas Track to gain a better
leveraging foothold.
Plus side of the +/- Bar.
Minus side of the +/- Bar.
A friend or another user may be needed to help with the initial push to get it going. The user(s) will then notice from this close proximity that a plus or minus sign on either end of the Jabber Bar is periodically presented, depending on which side of the sculpture he or she is pushing.
A passive user's perspective.
This experience will be different from the passive viewer who chooses to observe from a distance as the symbols may be indiscernible. Also, the passive user will not experience the physical exertion required to get the piece moving.
As the Christian/Islam/Mechanism assembly is rotating, a system of two gears and a chain is driving the motion of the +/- Bar mechanism which alternately presents the plus and minus sides of the Bar one time for each side with every full revolution.
The resulting reaction (B) when the user rotates the
sculpture in either (A) direction.
The mechanism is mounted to the inner
surface of the Islam element and to the
cantilever part (not shown).
